How your UPSC rank is worked out
A statistical model of the UPSC Mains built from official UPSC data — so your rank tells you where you would stand in the real exam.
A full UPSC Mains field
Your answers are ranked against a simulated field the size of the real UPSC Mains. Each simulated candidate writes all seven papers and takes one of the 48 optional subjects in the same proportions as in the real exam, based on UPSC's published figures. Simulated candidates are statistical stand-ins, always marked Simulated — they are not real people. The field is calibrated to official UPSC results such as the interview cut-off.
Papers you have written, and the rest
Papers you have written count with your evaluated marks, with more recent and longer tests counting more. Papers you have not written yet are estimated from your own performance, and each new evaluated test replaces its estimate automatically. Your page always shows which papers are actual and which are estimated.
Fair comparison across optionals
Optional subjects are marked differently, so — as UPSC does — optional marks are adjusted with UPSC-style scaling before candidates are compared. The adjustment considers how your optional's candidates perform overall, and also recognises genuinely stronger groups through the papers everyone writes. GS and Essay are not adjusted.
Your ranks
You get an All-India rank on the Mains total (out of 1750) and a rank within your optional. Ranks are recalculated every night, so they change when new results arrive; the simulated field is refreshed once a month.
